1968 Fiat 850 Sports Coupe
That's right! This is the flagship of my fleet. After painting all these other "Italian Beauties", I felt it was time to pay homage to my own little piece of Italian motoring style.
I took the photo on which the painting is based when it was in an historic car show at Eastern Creek. Parked just behind the pit complex, the view of the car from the roof of the pits was rather unique (I thought I had seen it from every angle till then!).
The car itself has been a labour of love. Bought in 1983 as a $300 unregistered wreck, I spend several years all told to restore it from the ground up. I learnt panel beating and welding at nights at Tech, taught myself spray painting and learnt most of the mechanical stuff from simply pulling it all apart and then scratching my head over a workshop manual till the wee small hours of the morning trying to figure out how to put it all back together again. With the help of a few good friends, it made it back into one piece.
The end result: thousands of hours labour (I gave up keeping track after the first 1000 or so...), $10,000 in spare parts and one of the nicest examples of this wonderful little car still in captivity!
